This course is aimed at an audience of Doctoral and Post-Doctoral students as well as scientists with experience in molecular biology and with an interest in applications for the new-generation sequencing technologies and SNP genotyping. The course consists of lectures in combination with practical computer and laboratory exercises. Topics include; sample preparation for sequencing, sequencing using the Solexa Genome Analyzer, interpretation and quality check of sequencing data and alignment to reference sequence and further bioinformatics analyses of the sequence data. The course will also include demonstration of genotyping systems at the SNP-technology platform and of the SOLiD sequencing system from Applied Biosystems at the Rudbeck laboratory.
During the course there will be a one day “minisymposium” with lectures by experts on sequencing and SNP-related technology and its applications.
The course is accepted as postgraduate course at the Medical Faculty of Uppsala University and yields 3 credit points (2 weeks) towards a doctoral thesis.
The registration fee is SEK 2000. Expenses for lunch and coffee during the course are covered by the organizers. The students are expected to organize and finance their travel to and accommodation in Uppsala.
